    It must be aix 5.1 or higher on the system where the mksysb was created. So
    yes, mksysb/tape must be with an aix 5.1 bootstrap/kernel on it.

    Wehn you say AIX must be 5.1 or higher that is on the boot tape
    (mksysb) right?
