    Can anyone provide me with the pros and cons regarding either managing my
    own DNS server or having a third part vendor/ISP manage it?

    IMHO this is not a good solution, as it "kills" innocent connections...

    Why not just deactivate the interface the connections are received on
    and then reactivate the interface?
