according to ibm, a single-connected aix box to a 500 is "not supported"...you got lucky, i've rebooted my 6h1 twice in the last two days trying to make that unsupported configuration work. you either need to dual-connect the aix boxes, or get a fibre-channel hub or switch..dual-connect the hub or switch, then single-connect the aix boxes to it. i'd STRONGLY advise against trying to get the single-connected direct to the 500 working.

We just installed a rack of P655 and a FAStT500 with 500 GB of disk.

On two of the P655's we have a fiber card in the unit and a second fiber
card in a RIO rack. All four of the fiber cards go to the FastT via two
switches. One to A the other to B on the FastT.

Two other P655 have two fiber cards each, but theirs are all in the P655
    unit, no RIO rack.

If we do a "cfgmgr" on either of the first P655's, we get an error in
"SMclient" that either A or B has failed. You look and usually A has
failed to B. Look at "lsdev -Cc disk" on the P655 that just ran "cfgmgr"
and the first time it only has one drive and it is only "Defined". Look at
the LUN's and they are both on A. Now run the cfgmgr again, now we see two
hdisks, both on the same interface ( 1j-08-01 ) and they are available.
Look on SMclient and both LUNs are on B. Any additional cfgmgr's and no
    change.

BUT, on the other P655 that share two other LUNs, none of this happens. A
run of cfgmgr always shows two hdisks on different channels (one on
1j-08-01 and the other on 1V-08-01 ) and the SMclient never shows a failure
    of A or B???

    Any ideas?
