    i think it's a backlash from people like me who find it ludicrous that they are ending support for 5.1 4 months after ending support for 4.3.3. that move seems to me to be grasping and usurious...very microsoft or oracle-like.

    Bill,

    That is probably correct. I see the extended support as a way of dealing
    with the backlash that they are getting due to 5.2 not being compatible
    with many older machines, where as 5.1 will run on all RS/6000 machines.
    5.2 would force a lot of people to make new hardware decsions before they
    are ready to.

    I saw that this morning, but according to the IBM lifecycle web page, the
    April 30 date is still withdrawal from marketing.
