whew have I done your homework!
According to the FactsNFeatures from 1998, the 7025 F40 will not support a
FC card.....try the F50 with 43 or 5.

According to the PCI adapter reference, the 6228 is not listed as
supported. Might be a microcode issue ?

In this context, "64-bit" refers to the PCI bus, not the CPU.
The F40 has two 64-bit slots: 1 and 2. The adapter should work in one of
those, I imagine.
