At the moment, most of our AIX boxes (nearly all of which are SP2 nodes, but
a few are standalone), just use /etc/hosts for name resolution. We are
considering moving to DNS. (There are a couple of AIX boxes which use DNS,
plus all the PC network, so we're not talking about setting up new DNS
    servers.)

I've read through the manuals to refresh my memory, including the IBM
document on DNS for SP2, and it all looks pretty straight forward.

Are there likely to be any unexpected pitfalls?

Do those of you using DNS have a very small, fairly static /etc/hosts file
or do you continue to maintain it as before?

We haven't yet made up our minds whether to do this. What reasons can you
think of for and against, besides removing the administrative overhead of
    maintaining /etc/hosts?

    Thanks,
    Simon Green
