I am not using 5.2 yet, but I would recomend you to get a "fresh" file
command from anywhere on the Internet, compile and install it. It's a
general Unix command and this should solve your problem. Did you open a
ticket with IBM yet?
Best regards,
Alberto.

Subject: "file" command
Folks -
In AIX 5.2, use of the "file" command on a file changes the modification
time of that file.
This is causing problems for some of our people operating on 5.2 nodes.
In AIX 5.1 and lower, it does not.
Is this a known bug? If so, is there a fix available and can I be pointed
to where to get it.
Thanks ahead of time!
Corey
