You do need HACMP license if you want to use concurrent volume group, no
matter it's on SSA or SAN volume. But if you have GPFS license, you could
built GPFS above RSCT Peer Domain Cluster without HACMP, which provide you
concurrent access at file system level. Note that this config was only
    supported by GPFS2.1 or above.

forgot to mention to those of you interested, the reason jfs is not
supported in concurrent vgs is because of the superblock cache residing in
host memory...no way to sync this across multiple nodes as of yet...(Shared
    memory possibly?)

    Thanks Ferenc!

I also found a little blurb stating that there is no jfs support for
concurrent volume groups, and you must have parts of HACMP installed in
order to use the Concurrent Logical Volume Manager facility. This implies
to me that you have to have a cluster configuration, with HA sittting in
the middle to control IO access to the volume group with CLVM managing all
the volume group changes in your cluster....

My understanding is that enhanced concurrent mode works with gsclvmd, which
requires topology services and group services. And HACMP provides the
topology information for RSCT. So I don't think you'll get far.

    Thanks for that John

I forgot to mention this is a 5.1 setup

when i tried to set up a concurrent vg, it complained about certain hacmp
filesets. i don't know how far into hacmp you need to go, but you need
    some things.

Anyone know if concurrent volume groups can be used now without HACMP
managing the data access? Can I use raw non-SSA SAN volumes?

What we're trying to accomplish is two Oracle database servers with a
common shared database, load balanced on the front end. Any ideas or
    experiences would be appreciated?
