    This is typical ftp behaviour. You can set the ftpd umask, but this is
    known to be dangerous for various security reasons. You might look into the
    'ncftp' program that is available for AIX and the PC. It is a little more
    intelligent about files and directories and frankly has a better user
    interface than the 'stock' ftp command.
