I've never seen anything from IBM and I doubt very much there is a simple
answer: like others have said, it depends on your environment.

At the moment, we've got something over 150 AIX images, (servers plus
individual LPARs), with 9 admin/support staff on two sites. We're kept
busy, but not ridiculously so. It's quite a dynamic environment so as well
as keeping things ticking over we're involved in project work including our
AIX5L migration, a lot of hardware expansion and re-locating remote servers
to one of our main data centres.

In my previous incarnation I was the sole support for about 25 servers and
generally wasn't rushed off my feet. However, I found it extremely
stressful at times because when anything went wrong I had no-one to help me
and ended up working stupidly long hours.

In that job, we never had serious problems because I was unavailable but
quite a few people were inconvenienced and some projects were delayed
slightly because they needed something doing whilst I was on holiday. For
real emergencies, there was a contract with an external support provider who
could dial-in to our system if needed.
