In our case, we do this:
Synchronize
Split
Importvg
varyonovg
Mount filesystems
Perform our backup
Unmount filesystems
Exportvg
Varyoffvg
Then on the next day, we repeat.

I've run a couple of tests, and I didn't need to varyonvg after I completed
the importvg. Am I overlooking something?
