    Hi,
        I have done the changes(-d)as you said in the inetd.conf but still no
    effect when i connect to the system using ftp it does not log the activity,
    i have refreshed both inetd and syslogd.Any clues..

    You have to edit the /etc/inetd.conf file and use the -l (logging) or
    the -d (debug) switch for the ftpd daemon (check the man pages for
    details).

    Ex: ftp stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/sbin/ftpd ftpd -l
    (make sure you refresh inetd after you make the changes)

              I am trying to enable system logging for all the debug
    messages, i
    have added a line "*.debug /var/adm/messages" in /etc/syslog.conf and
    refresh my syslogd also,but to check whether it is logging or not, i

    /var/adm/messages file does not contain any of these ftp messages... Can
    someone let me know how to go about..
