    ok... root can, others cant. lets see if its a file-permission problem

    do this and use user root to login in

    rm /usr/traceout; trace -a -j 107 -o /usr/traceout; ftp localhost;
    trcstop

    then run
    trcrpt /usr/traceout|grep lookuppn >asroot

    then do this and log in as "normal user" (what does not work)

    rm /usr/traceout; trace -a -j 107 -o /usr/traceout; ftp localhost;
    trcstop

    then run
    trcrpt /usr/traceout|grep lookuppn >asuser

    if you compare asroot and asuser you might find what file a normal user
    cant read but root can

    and compare output of
    lsuser -a login rlogin ttys registry theusername

    between the nodes where it works and the node where it does not work

    I am sure ipv6 is not configured, but still find the output of ifconfig
    -a

    # ifconfig -a
    en0:
    flags=e080863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST,GROUPRT,
    64BI
    T>
            inet 10.14.8.222 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.14.8.255
    lo0:
    flags=e08084b<UP,BROADCAST,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST,GROUPRT,64
    BIT>
            inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 broadcast 127.255.255.255
            inet6 ::1/0
    root@aq6006:/home/pkuma1

    To remind you once again the ftp fails only for non-root users, root
    user is able to login and do things properly.

    TIA

    is ipv6 somewhere configured?

    if unsure, post
    ifconfig -a

    i am asking because of this difference:
    connection from ::ffff:10.14.10.240
    connect from 195.183.212.11

    Yes exactly, I dont see the ^M character on other hosts where my ftp
    works fine.

    I really don't know whether this might lead us to the solution, but I
    have done a comparision bet'n these hosts and found that this is only
    difference.. Anyway pl find the messages

    Any thoughts on this..
