Some versions of the install CDs have a problem with CD-ROM microcode. Make
    sure it is current.

Again sorry for the cut and paste; need to see if the spam server is
    blocking my mail from AIX-L.

I did increase it manually and that is how it got to be 2 PPs.

I am beginning to suspect that the version of 5.2 media I have might be
the issue as you stated. I have the 10/2002 CDs. Also, looking @ the
machine I see that is downlevel in microcode. Once I get the MC updated
I will see about ordering new CDs.

Thanks for the suggestion. Let you know how it turns out for the
    archives.

Why don't you try to increase it manually before starting the upgrade
    and
try again. Also I remember I had problem with certain release of CDs
    when
installing/upgrading ob certain hardware, That I had to order a newer
release of the same 5.2 CDs.

Pardon the cut and paste job; but I never received this message in my
personal email so I got off the archive for reply.

There is free contiguous space for hd5 to be extended and I am aware of
the requirements. From the original message:

    # lslv -m hd5 15 Preserving old data.
    hd5:N/A
    LP PP1 PV1 PP2 PV2 PP3 PV3
    0001 0001 hdisk0
    0002 0002 hdisk0

    # lspv -M hdisk0
    hdisk0:1 hd5:1
    hdisk0:2 hd5:2
    hdisk0:3-166
    hdisk0:167 hd4:2

PPs 3-166 are free and allocatable to hd5 if required.

Also the message states it needs to be 8MB. From the information, my PP
size is 16MB and I have 2 PPs allocated for hd5 for a total of 32MB.

Still @ a loss and about to call support...

    Thanks !

The problem isn't with how much freespace there is available, but that
the next available PP to extend to is in use by some other filesystem.
The Boot Logical Volume (hd5) has to be 100% contiguous. You will need
to find whatever is using that space and relocate it then the BLV can be
    extended.

Anyone had this issue ? I am doing a migration upgrade of a 7025-F50
from AIX 5.1 ML06 to AIX 5.2 via CDs. I boot from the CD and everything
looks fine and I am not changing any of the options such as TCB or
    removing Java...

The migration starts and a few seconds after the "Importing volume
groups" or something close to that, I get the following message:

The boot logical volume (hd5) must be at least 8 megabytes.
The system you are installing has a boot logical volume
smaller than this, and the system does not have enough
free contiguous physical partitions on hdisk0 to increase
the size of the boot logical volume.
Please reboot in normal mode and correct this problem,
or restart the installation and choose an overwrite install.
Use the 'lspv -M hdisk0' command to see the current
    allocation map of the disk.
      ID# OPTION
        1 Continue
2 Perform System Maintenance and Then Continue
      Enter ID number:

Well, my hd5 is 2 LPs of 16MB. Same message with it being only 1PP
also. I have followed others advice and broke the rootvg mirror and
still receive this message. As you can see below hd5 is larger than 8MB
( not sure where it is getting this since the installation notes says it
must be 12MB ). Also, there is PLENTY of free space on hdisk for
extending the LV. I can go to system maintenance and verify all of this
so I do not think it is an issue with the disks. Error log does not
    show any issues.

Any ideas ? I am at a stopping point until this is resolved. I guess a

Thanks for any and all suggestions...
