What exactly is the situation? You are aware, I take it, that you can't fix
a mounted filesystem, so you're running this in maintenance mode?

Sometimes, fsck will report spurious errors on a mounted filesystem, because
it catches the filesystem in the middle of an operation. That's especially
likely with a busy filesystem such as /var. Try running "fsck -n" again.

If there really is a problem and you haven't yet booted in maintenance mode
you could try simply changing the "check" option in /etc/filesystems and
    rebooting.
