Have you flushed the routing table via smit?
Make sure that this is done from the console as you might loose your network
connection to the server.
If not, flush the routing table now and for the next reboot.
Once you have flushed the route, add a default route via smit and not the
command line and this should now be OK for a reboot.

And the odmget was clean? Only one default route in the odm?

Mark,
I Have already done this check for the word route across all the
files in /etc directory, but none of them had any entries.

You might have an extra entry in the odm. We have had this before where 2
default routes are saved in the odm for inet0.
What is the results of the following:
odmget -q name=inet0 CuAt
Also, check to see if someone is setting it by hand in an /etc/rc* script.
A route add default XX.XX.XX.XX will override you.
grep route /etc/rc*

Where do you think the old gateway is being restored from in this
situation?

smit chinet is adapter specific and will not affect the last
resort/default gateway contained within inet0.
Lamar
You would need to do a mkdev on the inet0 device outside of smit.

# smit chinet
Inet0 might be responsible for restoring the old gateway. Just an
idea...

Subject: Gateway not changing
Hi,
I am trying to change the gateway address on one of my AIX
boxes,
but whenever I do a reboot the Ip which I have given disappears and an
old
gateway address(Which was used before) appears in this place. No DNS
being
used, No static/dynamic routes in the boot files also.
TIA
