does anyone have a table of recommended block sizes by media or something
akin to that? when do you use variable blocksize, when do you use another
    value (ie 262144 or something)?

Tape block size is usually the culprit of this problem.

    Question:

After having a new tape drive installed on our system we have been having
slower backups. They have increased more than 30mins. For the same amount
    of data.

I am trying to troubleshoot this problem and get it back to where it
backups at its normal time. What kind of things should I look for in
troubleshooting this problem? Would error saying the image maybe to large
for tape have something to do with this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Frank
