I think the line is already stored in file dave but you can not see it
because it is not wrapped. Try to more dave instead of vi and see if the
complete line is there.

Here is my dillema
If I issue the command
msgview -search SCP, via terminal input (msgview is a vendor supplied app),
I get the line:
003975 08/31 12:07 aud SCP_StopServer The server Discern
Expert Server (CPM.EKS) entry 175 was stopped by SYSTEM; ...
However if I issue
nohup msgview -search SCP > dave
Or run
msgview -search SCP > dave
Via cron, the line stored in dave is:
003975 08/31 12:07 aud SCP_StopServer The server Discern
Exper...
........Question is how can I get the output redirected to a file, and get
the entire line?
