Joseph here are some notes I found from someone for you to review. I'm
sorry I'm swamped at the moment but I'll have some time to review this with
you this afternoon
-----
Dynamic LPAR relies on Service Focal Point and RSCT. This means that TCP/IP
(including the hostname) on the HMC must be configured. The /etc/hosts
files on the HMC and all LPARs must have entries for all entities with the
hostname appearing first in any list of aliases.
I ran into a problem with DLPAR after using the altinst_rootvg cloning
procedure to create the second LPAR. The file /etc/ct_node_id had the same
contents on both LPARs so the RSCT thought it had only one LPAR to manage.
This problem is supposed to be fixed in bos.alt_disk_install.rte 5.1.0.37.
In
the meantime, a workaround is to run these two commands after the first
boot of the new LPAR:
/usr/sbin/rsct/install/bin/uncfgct -n
/usr/sbin/rsct/install/bin/cfgct
A subsequent reboot should get everyone synchronized from an RSCT
perspective. The duplicate /etc/ct_node_id condition are likely to cause
negative behaviors
in a HACMP scenario between cloned LPARs. Cloning an LPAR with a mksysb
tape/DVD will likely cause the same problem. I verified that NIM installs
avoid this problem as a unique /etc/ct_node_id file is created.

No, it did not. IBM AIX support asked me to repeate the steps in the
checklist many many times, but made no different. I am escalating to the
next level and also involved our Account rep to help with the issue.

This is the link for tips and checklist, but does not seem to help.

I nim one of my problematic LPAR from a working LPAR, but not able to use
DLPAR after cloning.
sounds good.

We have the same issue I just haven't called IBM on it yet. We have some
LPARS on the same hardware that have DLPAR as on option and others that do
not, same OS level. I did some checking a while back and I did come across
some info that talked about network and DNS issues between the HMC and
LPARS
causing problems. If you get a solution please post it. If I get one
before you do I'll post it.

We are having problem not be able to utilize the Dynamic LPAR feature on
the
following LPARs. On the Web console, Dynamic LPAR option does not show up
when we right click on the LPAR. I have been working with IBM supports for
the last couple days and provided them all sources of traces, but they
still
have not identify the problem. If you have seen a similar problem and have
a solution, please help.
Here are the configurations:
P670 with ROM Level.(alterable).......2H040323 [ latest ]
- LPAR 1
- AIX 5.2 ML04
- rsct.core.X 2.3.4.X [ latest ]
- csm.client 1.4.0.1 [ latest ]
- LPAR 2
- AIX 5.2 ML02
- rsct.core.X 2.3.2.0
- csm.client 1.3.1.3
HMC 7315-0C1, R3V2.6
FYI:
At another location with different HMC, we have a p650 with the exact OS
level as explained in LPAR2 and the Dynamic LPAR is working perfectly.
