Please read 1.2.7.4 - Volume group descriptor area in the IBM Redbook
entitled "AIX Logical Volume Manager from A to Z: Introduction and
Concepts," (SG245432) for detailed information concerning your question.
I hope this helps answers your question.

    Subject: query on VGDA

    Hi,

I have a small query on the number of VGDA's on a disk.

In a situation where I have a vg say 'newvg' that was created with one
disk, I understand that I'll have 2 VGDA's in it, when I add another
disk to the same 'newvg', the new disk will also have 2 VGDA's on the
disk but the LVM uses only the first VGDA. When I add the thrid disk to
the same 'newvg', how many VGDA's would get allocated on this third
disk, is it the same 2 VGDA's or only one.

I also understand that after I add the third disk to the VG, the number
of VGDA's on the first disk would still be 2 but if this vg is quorum
enabled then the LVM would take in to consideration only 1 VGDA. Am I
correct in saying this or not ? Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Warm Regards,
