I'm curious to hear some anwsers on this as well. I recently tried to
restore a 5.2 mksysb from a p650 on DVD to a p670 and it failed during
overmount. Booted from the DVD so that wasn't the issue...tried it again,
new mksysb....same problem.
During the DVD mksysb creation, I got some strange errors saying that
..."some systems wouldnt be bootable bc some device filesets didn't
exist..."
I'll try and hunt down the original msg

It's really not something that would be supported.
Provided you have the same architecture - e.g. all CHRP - I think you
should
be able to get away with it. You'd need to install all the extra device
filesets for the second server. Even then, I wouldn't expect it to boot
cleanly. You may have problems with license keys.
I've only done this sort of thing once. That involved moving disks from a
dead server to another almost identical server, (same model and everything;
the only difference was the new one had an SSA adapter, which I had no
interest in). This wouldn't boot first time: I had to drain the NVRAM and
mess with the bootlist in the firmware menus.
I only did this because there wasn't a recent backup of the system and the
extra effort was worth it to the customer to avoid losing data. I would
not
recommend anyone else attempting this except under similar circumstances
and
certainly not on a regular basis.
What are you trying to achieve? Maybe someone can suggest a better way.
