Has any one had an issue with WAS 5.1 not installing on AIX 5.2?

Our scenario is we have successfully installed WAS 5.1 on 4
systems/LPARs ( 2 LPARS and 2 standalone ) using an NFS mount of the
installation media. All of these machines were 5.1 systems/LPARS. We
have another production LPAR to install WAS 5.1 and it will not work.

This LPAR was built native 5.2 with a NIM image. It is very close to
the packages on the QA and Development servers; but the install
continues to fail with this in the /tmp/log.txt:

The WAS installer never builds the WebSphere directory structure beyond
the <...>/WebSphere/AppServer/logs. No other directories are built.

We have tried the following and are working with IBM 2nd/3rd Level
    support with no resolution:

    Local installation
Removed all other Java packages from the machine
    Default install path in /usr
    Application server only install
REBUILT the machine to make sure we had a clean ODM
Ran the install command with many different flags to increase logging
and set the Java home to the one provided in the installation media
    Ulimits are unlimited
LANG has been set to en_US
Created another logical volume/filesystem to install

You name it, we have tried it. The machine we are installing on is 5.2
ML04. We cannot seem to find the silver bullet.

I see lots of messages about people using WAS 5.1 on AIX 5.2 so I know
this is possible. We are grasping at straws.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Another person with this is
    issues has documented it @:

    Thanks !
