The best way is to download the .iso image for the p5, burn it onto a CD and
then update via the HMC.
The firmware can be obtained at:
http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/mdownload/p5.iso

Subject: firmware upgrades on power5 systems
Hello,
I cant make it to upgrade ucode on my p520 to 049 - I always get "this
partition does not have service authority".
No matter to which partition I set service authority to. The current
firmware (048) is already accepted.
I called IBM and they said "if a system is connected to a HMC, service
authority is always set to HMC".
So I need to upgrade the ucode on the HMC.
The problem is how to get the ucode to the HMC. As far as I see, I have to
either
1) configure a modem that will dialout
2) configure VPN from the HMC to IBM - I didnt find any details how to do
3) configure another host with a modem that will "dial for" my HMC.
Can you tell if this is true?
Did you ever upgrade ucode on a HMC-managed system?
My problem here is not the modem - its shipped with the HMC and easy to
configure.
My problem is the security guidelines of my company. I doubt that all others
company allow the attachment of modems or VPN tunnels to the internet.
Regards,
Holger
