asm does not work through your nic
it goes through the internal hmc-network which cannot be used for
external traffic
check your nic with netstat -v

Subject: Eserver p5 installation
Hi all,
I am having fun installing brand new p5 (5.2), I managed to get passed
the usb keyboard, but the boot process, every tcp/ip, nfs startup
operations are very slow and they do not appear to work.
I can use https:// in order to connect to ASM via browser, but I can't
telnet to that machine neither remotely nor localy.
When trying to run telnetd manually, I got The specificed file
descriptor is not a socket.
I can't make NFS/NIS clients working, I can't ping the gateway.
The NIC works, otherwise I would not be able to access the machine via
https:// but nothing else appears to work.
Any ideas where to look ?
Thanks
/Libor
