The simple answer is that the SPOT is just a thing you need for NIM, like
lppsource. It's effectively an entire /usr filesystem, used during the
install. Ideally, it should be at the same level as both the lppsource and
the mksysb image that you are using. (You can get away with discrepancies
    sometimes, but not always.)

One of the simplest ways to rebuild it in a PSSP environment is to delete
it: the next time you run setup_server the SPOT will be re-created from your
lppsource. (The SPOT is in /spdata/sys1/install/aixNNN. I think you can
just delete this directory, but it might be better to do it through the NIM
    commands/smit.)

You can also modify it using NIM commands. The easiest way is to use smit
(smitty nim). You can install, remove and update AIX filesets very much
like you would a real system.

If you've copied your AIX maintenance to your lppsource, then you just need
to do an update of the SPOT from that.

    e.g.
    smitty nim_res
    Select "Perform Operations on Resources"
Select your SPOT from the list, (you may have more than one, if you're
    maintaining multiple versions of AIX).
    Select "update_all".
As the Source select your lppsource.
    Then it's just like a normal update_all.

Check the "Network Installation Management Guide and Reference" for more
details. There's some information in the PSSP Installation and Migration
    Guide as well.
