    Hi to all:

          I'm deploying a snmp graph/query tool called cacti (
    http://www.cacti.net ) to monitor aspects of my Data Center. This Data
    Center had some Linux, AIX and other devices snmp capables.

          The devices ( routers or switches ) and Linux machines respond very
    well to cacti snmp answers. I can store and display traffic, cpu % use,
    mounted filesystem total/free space, load average, etc... The problem comes
    with AIX boxes. Googling arround I read that AIX 5.1 and/or Aix 5.2 comes
    with snmp V3 enabled by default. I read too that shutting down snmp daemon
    and soft linking /usr/sbin/snmpdv1 to /usr/sbin/snmpd, then snmpd v1 is ,of
    course, the default snmp daemon.

          With this scenario, I can ask to the aix snmpd daemon from the linux
    machine in this way:

          snmpwalk -v 1 -c readcommunity hostname_or_ip system

          and get something like this:

    "SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: IBM PowerPC CHRP Computer
    Machine Type: 0x0800004c Processor id: 0052189A4C00
    Base Operating System Runtime AIX version: 05.02.0000.0010
    TCP/IP Client Support version: 05.02.0000.0010
    SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0 = OID: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.2.3.1.2.1.1.3
    SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (1320573) 3:40:05.73
    SNMPv2-MIB::sysContact.0 = STRING:
    SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING: kppbd
    SNMPv2-MIB::sysLocation.0 = STRING: CPD Kern Pharma
    SNMPv2-MIB::sysServices.0 = INTEGER: 0
    "

    At least, the aix snmpd daemon is running

    But using cacti to create graphics returns no data. I'm thinking in some
    type of incompatibility between aix native snmpd and udc/net-snmp client in
    my cacti side.
    Googling again I read some people saying that it's better to install
    net-snmp in the aix machine and use it as snmpd, but before i try this i
    wanna know if anybody has used cacti/net-snmp to ask aix snmpd with
    success.

    Any other info is always wellcome!

    TIA
