My personal opinion is that RH linux is great.

But the fact of the matter is that AIX is still better for mission critical
applications. The LVM is second to NONE in the industry, as far as I'm
concerned. The stability is tremendous as well. It's proven tried and true.
The RH LVM has come a long way, but it isn't capable (at least I think it
isn't) of the imaging options that are inherent in AIX.

Linux can however run on much of the same hardware that AIX can. In fact
you can buy Pseries hardware running Linux, and LInux can be part of an
    LPAR configuration.

Hold on, what cost savings are you refering to? Hardware? If you buy a
P-Series server, AIX is something like $50 for it. That's pretty cheap.

If your comparing AIX on P-Series -vs- RH Linux on the PC platform, then
that's crazy IMO. The P-Series hardware is generations ahead of any 64 bit
I386 technologies. Research teh hardware aspects of both platforms, that'll
clear up a bit. I would not run my mission critical applications on PC
    hardware.

    That's just my opinion.

Someone is trying to tell me RH or SuSe Linux is just as good as AIX; so
    why pay IBM's costs?

I prefer IBM for the following, but what else am I not thinking of?

IBM Support is second to none,
No kernel or patch updates which can be daily if using RH and SuSe,
Better admin tools such as mksysb, cfgmgr and hot PCI Tasks,
    Better CPU performance.

    What else?

    TIA!
