    I don't think such a "long" time...

    IBM is working on porting lots of AIX-software into Linux.
    Smit for Linux isn't that faraway...
    JFS and LVM are here now in linux, but granted not perfect.

    It may not be equal at the high-end of the computing market.
    But, for entry-level & mid-range of the enterprise-sized consumers,
    it is a viable option.

    If you are running mission critical systems you would not want to be on the LInux platform as the performance and scalability is simply not there, YET. If you are running large databases, then I strongly suggest that you go with AIX. It will be a long time before LINUX will be equal to AIX.
