    Way off the question, but if the files were being stored there via
    Samba; you can force the group and user when connecting. We use a
    similar mechanism for invoices and etc under our ERP system.

    I think what you are looking for is a umask. Check the man page.

    I agree with Simon. It's best to find out what his business needs are
    then
    make your own recomendations.

    There is no way of doing this. (Apart from running a job in the
    background
    to keep changing the ownership of new files, or something like that.)

    I'd go back a couple of steps: find out what the DBA actually requires
    rather than try to implement his "solution". When people find that
    things
    don't work, it's usually because they should have been doing something
    different in the first place.
