Generally, 5.3 is supported on any CHRP box, but ONLY CHRP.
There are some specific adapters which aren't supported.
Full details can be found in the AIX 5L Version 5.3 Release Notes, Appendix
    A.
You can find a copy of that here:-

I could be wrong about this, but I believe an H80 is the lowest one. I'm not
    sure though.
5.1 supported all microchannels and pci models. 5.2 supported earlier pci
    models as long
as they were: "chrp" architecture: "bootinfo -p". 5.3 I believe is for the
    higher end/newer chrp/pci
    systems. Thanks.

Which machine is suitable for AIX 5.3
    AIX Gurus,
I need some recommendations for a AIX 5.3 box.
Basically we need to port our software to AIX 5.3.
What is a suitable machine for AIX 5.3?
We are leaning towards a "IBM eServer p5 510".
Basically I am looking for the cheapest machine I can load AIX 5.3.
    TIA
    Prasad
