Yeah, I get to read my typo too !!!
I wrote:
I think the compiled Samba @ UCLA for AIX 5.1 will work on AIX 5.1.
Should say:
I think the compiled Samba @ UCLA for AIX 5.1 will work on AIX 5.2.

Well the question is different here. If you want to provide SMB shares
to Windows clients, then you will need Samba, TAS (TotalNet Access
Server) or Fast Connect.
If you want to mount SMB shares to an AIX host, you can use the CIFS
support built in to AIX 5.2+...
I think the compiled Samba @ UCLA for AIX 5.1 will work on AIX 5.1. I
know previous versions have (2.2.9, 3.0.8); but we compile our own Samba
now to change locations and options.
Here is the UCLA link for Samba:

A couple of days ago we were discussing the possibility of not needing
samba in AIX 5.2+. Some documents that Lamar provided were:
http://www16.boulder.ibm.com/doc_link/en_US/a_doc_lib/cmds/aixcmds3/moun
t.htm
It is similar to the Linux smbmount where CIFS is now built into the AIX
5.2 kernel.
and
http://www16.boulder.ibm.com/doc_link/en_US/a_doc_lib/aixbman/commadmn/n
fs_smbfs.htm
Maybe they can help?
I haven't looked at them myself yet but if we can now use nfs similar to
samba for mibs, that would be great.

Where can I download a working version of SAMBA for AIX 5.2?
