Can you post the output of:

    lsdev -Cc tape

lscfg -vl rmt# for each drive

    Thanks,
    Lamar

BTW, what is the SCSI address of the drive. It cannot be on address as
the parent SCSI adapter or you will see a multitude of tape drives due
    to an SCSI address conflict.

I thought I was home free this morning but am still having problems.
Yesterday, I used smit to remove the tape drive due to a duplicate scsi
address, I selected yes for remove definition (don't ask). I rebooted
last night. It now recognizes the tape drive as both defined and
available. When I run diagnostics, I get no errors. When I run a tar
or tctl command (other than status), I get:

/dev/rmt2: A system call received a parameter that is not valid.

This is a six-year-old machine and the external tape drive is a DDS 4mm
tape drive. I used other scsi tape drive for the definition. The
    status is:

mode yes Use DEVICE BUFFERS during writes True
    block_size 1024 BLOCK size (0=variable length) True
extfm yes Use EXTENDED file marks True
    res_support no RESERVE/RELEASE support True
var_block_size 1024 BLOCK SIZE for variable length support True
    density_set_1 39 DENSITY setting #1 True
    density_set_2 39 DENSITY setting #2 True
delay 45 Set delay after a FAILED command True
rwtimeout 144 Set timeout for the READ or WRITE command True

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
