Well, going from AIX 4.3.2 to AIX 5.2 was not the cake walk I was hoping
    it to be.

I had taken workstations from AIX 4.3.3 ML07 to 5.2 without issues, but
taking one of my two H70 from 4.3.2 was riddled with issues. Have still
not figured out what went wrong, but I ended up having to remove HACMP
before I could get the lppchk -v to return clean. Then, when I tried to
update_all against the ML05 CD, it hung in Preview only mode. Thinking
that maybe it was an issue with firmware on CD or system, upgraded those,
but not before going to ML02 over network. That finished, but would not
Apply/Commit. Stuck on ifor_ls.base.cli. Only committed the root part.

Ended up having to take things part-by-part. Was finally able to get ML05
on to. lppchk -v shows clear, but my ifor_ls.libraries is still not at
the same level as is on my workstations on AIX 5.2 ML02

In the process of putting on the firmware update, had reason to call IBM.
When they heard what I was truing to do, they said it was ALL WRONG. Must
first go base 4.3.3. Then got to 433-ML11. Then go to 5.1 then 5.2 then
5.2-ML5. Why? Because there may be intermittent filesets or steps that
will be overlooked in such a big jump. Would seem to be true for the ifor
stuff. Don't really understand why I hung on the HACMP stuff, but I was
ok with that since I no longer use HACMP on these H70's

Anyway, writing to let it be known that things can go south on ya
sometimes..... Probably something I did wrong.

The other reason I write is because that was my development ("sandbox")
H70. I still need to do the production system and I need to do it fast
and correctly. So, if anyone has any thoughts on what I reported above
let me know. If you think I should do multiple upgrades/migrations, let
that be known too. I am inclined to at least go to 4.3.3 first, then to
5.2 second....since I know that worked last year for my desktop
workstations. Guess I will remove HACMP first also?

    1.a. Yes. We have done quite a few. AIX 4.3.3 -> AIX 5.2 ML05.
       b. Shouldn't be.

    2. I would stick to AIX 5.2 ML05

I am sure these questions have been asked and answered somewhere in here,
but a quick touch base would be appreciated.

    1) I have a handful of H70 (7026-H70) that presently are running AIX
    4.3.2.

             a) Can I take this hardware to AIX 5.2 (or higher)?

             b) Is there any issues going directly from 4.3.2 to AIX 5.2- ML05
    or even AIX 5.3?

    2) These H70's, and other servers and clients we have, need to go to AIX
5L. I have no mandate (yet) to go to AIX 5.3 and I have many system at
AIX 5.2-ML02. So, is it safe.... is it proven .... would it be wise to go
all the way to 5.3 or just hold back at 5.2-ML05?

    Thanks,
