Well, that's what I wanted to know: your original post didn't make it
clear that wtmp was the sole cause of the problem.

For your users' print jobs, you have no choice but to allocate more
space somewhere. Personally I wouldn't bother creating a separate
    filesystem for that.

/var/adm/wtmp can grow quite rapidly, particularly if you've got a lot
of ftp or similar. (If you get an improperly terminated ftp session -
from a Windows client, perhaps - it can poll and write a new entry every
few seconds. That soon mounts up.) We just delete it once a week: all
of the information it contains which is useful for auditing is available
elsewhere, so it's just not worth the trouble of trying to keep it's
size down, although I used to clear out unwanted entries so that I could
    keep it.

            Simon,

Our problem is running out of space in the /var filesystem.
Several time we have ran out of space when users have many print jobs in
the queue and the /var/tmp directory takes the rest when more print jobs
are done. Also, the wtmp file grows and takes up alot of space. We
want to control the situation and was wondering if any othert users had
the same issue and what they did!

The solution depends on the cause of the problem. Do you know
what particular file(s) are taking up the space?

You can create additional filesystems under /var. Depending on
what they are you may have to put them in rootvg, so that they're
available immediately at boot. I would want to know exactly what was
causing the problem first, though: better to avoid creating extra
filesystems and making things more complicated.

Every now and then our /var/tmp space becomes full and
users cannot add any more print jobs. Has anyone else experience this
problem and what did they do to resolve it? Can the /var/tmp be
redirected or mounted on its on filesystem? Once we removed the wtmp
file to save space but we don't want to do that all the time.
