    Sorry I wasn't very clear, I want to make the OS suddenly stop, like a halt
    -q but in a less pleasant and organised fashion. It's part of a test on an
    HACMP installation.

    What do you mean by crash? Do you mean system/ o/s dump? You could use the
    AIX command: "sysdumpstart".
    Be sure to view your system dump/crash settings first to make sure they are
    set appropriately via: "sysdumpdev".

    How do you crash AIX 5.3, we have tried echo dhfeifhoio > /dev/kmem but
    we're getting an error:

    Ksh: A memory address is not in the address space for the process
