Mostly, I've found it to be fairly straightforward, but I think that it
would be worth going on the partitioning course. I assume there's a new one
now for POWER5 which covers micro-partitioning. If nothing else, the course
provides you with a safe environment to actually try the various tasks
    without destroying your own systems.

(I haven't worked on P5 partitioning, only on Regattas.)

I have found it to be quite important to have accurate hardware
configuration details: which specific disks and adapters are in which slots.
It also helps to plan disk and adapter placement with partitioning in mind,
so as to reduce complexity later. On our p690s we have a dedicated I/O
drawer for each partition. That might not be possible in all cases but at
the least it would be helpful to group the adapters together.

    Subject: LPARing
    Folks,
We have some 520's and 550's that I'm considering LPARing (normally it's
something we wouldn't do with the app we run on them, each box has its own
function) - it's something I've never even looked at before, however, so I'm
wondering how difficult it is to deal with. Is it something I'll want to
take a class on, or is the documentation sufficient to explain what I'll
need to do and how to do it?
Also, what common issues am I likely to hit, especially having never done
this before? I'm sure I'll probably hit most, if not all, of them ;)
I haven't really done any research on this yet - at this point it's just an
idea, so I'm putting out feelers to decide if it's something that will be
relatively straightforward or a major pain in the neck... if it sounds
reasonable I'll start looking at FAQs and docs and such.
