I'm running AIX 4.3.3 on an RS6000 - model F50. I have a Printronix P5220S
printer
on the network. The printer has an ethernet port and has been
configured to the proper network settings.
Using 'smit printer' to add an AIX Print Queue
-> Print Spooling
-> Add a Print Queue

A few seconds and the display shows Job number is: 32
A few more seconds and I get the following error message at the system console:
Message from root on aims (UNKNOWN) [Wed Aug 17 13:19:23 CDT 2005] ...
Message from queueing system:
0781-088 Queue P5220:ibm@192 went down, job is still queued:

P5220 ibm@1 DOWN
QUEUED 32
/etc/hosts root 3 1 1
It seems I get this error whenever I try to define the printer as one of
the following:
ibmNetPrinter IBM Network Printer
ibmNetColor IBM Network Color Printer
If I set the printer as hpJetDirect (Network Printer (HP JetDirect)) and
say the
Printer Type is Printronix and is a Printronix P9012 Line Printer, the
error messages
disappear but if I print a file there is a bunch of gobbly gook before and
after
the printed text.
Bottom Line:
What causes the error:
0781-088 Queue P5220:ibm@192 went down, job is still queued:
Backend: /usr/lib/lpd/pio/etc/pioibmnpm 192.168.0.60 -d p /etc/hosts
Backend Exit Value: EXITFATAL (0100)
and is there a way to fix/correct it?
Thanks,
