    Hi all:

I had the same case, but IBM did not tell that I need the KVM.

I had connect 2X P550, each with 2 LPAR & the HMC station to a switch
using HMC port at the P550. They connect to each other by DHCP where is
the HMC is the DHCP server.

..... Hope this will help :-)

    Thanks & Regards

What I am being told is that I have 30 P5 servers to connect to one HMC
using a TF3 keyboard, mouse, and display rack mounted. Because of this
    I need a KVM FC7316 with FC4202 cables.

I still don't see the need for this but IBM says it is a recommend
    setup?

    Thanks

    Vince

The connections are via private LAN (literally a switch or hub connected
to the different systems and the HMC), rather than the old P4 serial
connections. Serial ports on the target system are still unavailable,
however. Don't get that, but whatever.

    Need your help,

I would like to start using an HMC to manage my P5 servers, with the
lastest code we can connect up to 48 servers non-P590/P595.

The question I have is that I see that it uses a KVM switch and can't
figure out why it needs one? I read though the redbook (alittle out of
date) but it doesn't talk about the KVM.

Anyone using an HMC for P5 can shed some light on this that would be
    great.

    Thanks in advance,

    Vince
