May be better first talk about what is going wrong, what type of
database you have ( ¿datawarehouse?, ¿intensive online transactions? ),
type of hard disks ( ¿SSA?, ¿SAN environment?, ¿SCSI local?).
But take this in mind:
All is 'tunable', Operative System, disk access, network, memory... but
the best optimization for the highest database health is a good coded
application. And it's really difficult to obtain a good coder this
days... :(
