Just a question on how people handle print jobs in their place of work and how I might address a situation here.
Most of our printers are HP's connected via jetdirects and are smaller jobs that just print when submitted.
The helpdesk or I fix the odd queue down etc. using qcan, qadm, etc (command line stuff).
The exception to this is our large capacity Xerox printer which used to have a HOLD_QUEUE defined on it where aix print jobs went and then the print operators released them once the printer was setup. This was done on the printer console itself.
Now we are looking to replace the Xerox DT6135 with a Minolta Bizhub Pro 1050. It doesn't seem to have the ability to provide a HOLD queue on the printer so I have been asked to provide a method for our Printer Operators to manage jobs using another method.
Using command line stuff may work but if it is a mouse-click Windows sort of thing that would be preferable.
I started to look at WSM and can use a graphical terminal and run 'wsm printers' to list all the printers on that server.
Unfortunately that list is about 175 printers long and seems to take forever to load (I'd like to limit that list if I could).
I've created a HOLD and RELEASE queue that I want them to be able to move jobs between.
The other thing they want is some sort of notification (visual or other) to indicate there are jobs in the queue.
Any advice appreciated,
mark
