    I don't normally use NIM to create mksysbs so I'm a bit hazy. My
    understanding is that the exclude file can exist on the client machine, or
    on another machine, (usually the master).

    Here's one I've just tested...
    > lsnim -t exclude_files -l
    SCG_TEST_EXCLUDE:
       class = resources
       type = exclude_files
       comments = Testing exclude_files function
       Rstate = ready for use
       prev_state = unavailable for use
       location = /tmp/scg_exclude.rootvg
       alloc_count = 0
       server = master

    > ls -l /tmp/scg_exclude.rootvg
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root system 203 Nov 07 15:24
    /tmp/scg_exclude.rootvg

    As you see, the exclude file itself is /tmp/scg_exclude.rootvg,
    ("location"), and it exists on my NIM master, ("server").

    To use this, I created a mksysb resource (smitty nim_mkres) and specified
    this exclude_files resource at the bottom of the panel. Having just done
    that, I found that it got used correctly and my excluded files were, indeed,
    excluded.

    Check that your file exists at the specified location, and on the specified
    server, (presumably your master, but it doesn't have to be).

    If you want to use the normal /etc/exclude.rootvg on your client, it's
    probably simplest not to use an exclude_files resource.

    Simon..
    I am new with the nim process.. can you help me understand a little further.
    On Friday, on the nim master, I looked at the location of the exclude file
    and it was located in /nim/images/exclude.rootvg.
    (lsnim -l | grep exclude)
    This file itself contained some non-rootvg filesystems so I removed them
    from the exclude file. I still got the error this past weekend.
    Now... on the nim master, there is also an /etc/exclude.rootvg... but the
    lsnim does not point to this file.. so I am assuming it is not used.
    There is also an /etc/exclude.rootvg file on each on the clients.
    However, there is not a /nim/images/exclude.rootvg on each client.
    Does the nim process use the exlude file on each client or the one on the
    nim master?
    If.. it uses the exclude file on the client, the location in the lsnim is
    wrong because that file does not exist on the clients and thus the resource
    error.
    If that is the case, how do I change the location of the exclude file on the
    master? I am not good with NIM at all...
    Tks for your patience and assistance...

    I guess that /etc/exclude.rootvg is missing.
    Look at the resources allocated to the machine and check the details of the
    excludefile resource. Either remove that resource, or create the necessary
    exclude file.
