    Eric,

Here was the explanation from Ben, our DBA:

FYI -- The reason why /var/adm/wtmp was written so much was: when the
OS level usage option turned on in SpotLight, the server resource usage
is being updated constantly. When I turned off this option, it is not
    updated anymore.

    Ben

    I hope it helps.

    Hi,
I found the following message on your server. We have exactly the same
    problem with Spolight.
Is it possible to know what option was turned off to solve the problem ?
    Thanks.
    Eric.

    Everyone,
Thanks for the comments. It seems that an option on the Spotlight
application on the windows machine was recently turned on that was
causing excessive attempts to connect to this machine. That problem was
resolved, which reduced the numbers of entries in the wtmp file.
    Thanks again.
    Tom
