Re: SSA configuration help!

I read the docs you pointed to but I am still confused.

I'll try to make it a little easier:

I have one system - System A (IBM 44p) with one SSA adapter (4 ports)

(From the back of the unit)

System A

SSA Adapter
Ports
A B C D

I have one SSA (Model 713-020) drawer with 16 9GB disk drives
(From the back of the unit)

Ports
Ports
4
1
*
*
5 DRIVES 16
8
13
9
12

(The * are a pair of jumpers which are open)

All I want to do is to connect SystemA to the SSA drawer so it sees
all 16 drives.

All disks are empty (no data)

Help?

Dave,
Its been a while since I have worked with SSA, so perhaps there are others
better qualified.
Don't mean to sound cold here, but there are many pieces of information
that you didn't include to even know how to formulate an answer for you.

If you could describe what type of configuration you want as an end
product, for Eg.
-(2) standalone systems, each with (1) drawer of 16 9GB drives [no
relationship between the 44p and F80 when complete]
or
-(2) systems that can each see both drawers for redundancy

Do all 32 disks in the large VG have data on all the drives? If so, you
need to get the data free from the 16 you want to take and then reduce them
out of the VG before you disconnect them.

You might want to include some lsdev -Cc disk, lsvg -p BIGVG (describe
which disks you want to keep on the 43P), etc

For starters, a few references that have helped me in the past.

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=505&context=STCXNXH&q1=ssg*&uid=ssg1S1002348&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

The 7133-020 Service Guide was particularly helpful for cabling.

Subject: SSA configuration help!

Before I dig myself a hole I won't be able to get out of......

I need some help with configuring SSA

Right now:

System: 44P Model 270
4 Port SSA card
2 separate SSA drawers (Model 7133-020) with 16 9GB drives in each

Both drawers are hooked up to the 44P

>From the back of the system:

2 cords go to the top right 2 ports of the one drawer
2 cords go to the top right 2 ports of the second drawer

One Large volume group includes all the drives (No RAID)

What I want to do:

I have a F80 with a 4 port SSA card

I want to hook up one drawer to the 44p and one drawer to the F80

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

I've already wasted a day trying to do this myself...

:0(

Thanks!
