The scan doesn't imply booting up from that device. It's just a scan. Test
it: Put a LUN with a valid boot image, and set the boot list via the SMS
menus WITHOUT the LUN on the list, but with an invalid device (without a
boot image). The system will scan the device, but will not boot from it.

Soooo....
Basically, the "man" page is incorrect
It say:
When searching for a boot device, the system selects the first device in
the
list and determines if it is bootable. If no boot file system is detected
on the
first device, the system moves on to the next device in the list. As a
result,
the ordering of devices in the device list is extremely important.
Here is our bootlist:
cd0 hdisk0
Both are bootable but the system still searches the entire disk inventory

no.
it is normal for this hardware to scan all devices when booting up.

Yes,
When we tried to set the boot device in the SMS menu, it still scanned
all of the fibre disks.
Anyway around this?

are you sure it tried to boot from every san-disk?
or was the box just scanning its devices, which is/works as designed?
>(We also disconnected the fiber and the boot just hung)
strange... did you try to setup/choose the boot-device directly in the
sms-menus?

We had some problems booting from cd0 on a box that has a fiber
connection to an EMC box.
Even though the bootlist only contains cd0, it will still search every
single fibre attached diskin order to boot
Is there a way around this?
(We also disconnected the fiber and the boot just hung)
Thanks!
