It appears to only occur with bosinst. Showlog works fine and
occasionally a reset or deallocate can take a little while but, the
bosinst always takes a LONG (literally 15-25 minutes) time. I did a
little more poking around and found that during this latency the files
xtab, exports, bootptab, and the autogenerate script are being
created/updated but at an agonizingly slow pace. Of the three files in
/etc there is only a total of about 8 lines that get updated and it will
average 2-3 minutes between adding each line. I see nothing else
occurring on the system.
So far I have only used the bosinst with an lpp_source. I am currently
in the process of creating the mksysb - I pushed that from the master
and it only took a minute to 90 seconds before I saw the data coming
across.
Thanks

Just to clarify:
What jobs from the master are slow:
-nim install
-nim reboot/reset
-nim showlog
-*all

One additional piece of information that I forgot - lsnim -l <client>
on the master shows that the Cstate doesn't change from "ready for NIM
operation" to "BOS installation enabled" until about 10-15 minutes of
wait (roughly 5 minutes before any events occur on the client).
Thanks again

Subject: NIM push latency
Hi *
I am experiencing a latency of about 15-20 minutes prior to execution of
any NIM actions that I push from my master. This is a completely virgin
environment - I installed both servers from the base 5.3 ML0 CDs and
built the NIM master yesterday. I have defined only a single spot and
lpp_source from the same CDs I installed with. Everything works fine
and at very acceptable speeds - once they get going. However anytime I
push a job from the master, literally NOTHING happens (running topas on
both master and client) for 15-20 minutes. I've even used the scheduler
within the smitty nim_bosinst screens to schedule the job for one minute
in the future but, it appears that after the one minute, it begins the
15-20 minute wait.
I don't see any other symptoms. They can resolve each other fine.
.rhosts is configured properly (I'm using rsh rather than nimsh because
once I get everything figured out, I will be setting it up in a mixed
environment). The network speed is fine - averaging 70 MB/sec in FTP.
These are the only two servers on this network.
Can anyone point me to what may be causing this delay before execution?
TIA
David
