I've tried nfs exporting the CD from my workstation, but that isn't
working right (I'm using OS X and NSF manager to do the export).
I've tried copying the CD files into a directory and using:
smitty install_latest
with the directory and that isn't working. Is there a way to copy the
files to a directory and have it work?
This is extremely frustrating because it seems like it should be so
simple.
Nadine,
Under smit install
Copy Software to Hard Disk for Future Installation
This will allow you to make a 'smit install image' of the C bundle to your
AIX hard drive. At that point, you can just export the directory from your
AIX server to the clients and do the install. Create the .toc in the
export directory with 'inutoc'. Of course, this is going to take one more
trip up your stairs.. Thats another thing, isn't is possible for you to
just create a cdrom mount point, and export that -ro to your clients, do the
install then de-export? Just a thought, but I don't know how restrictive
your installation is..
installp is by far the best way to install, since it will allow you to easily
apply service later. If you try and copy the files around, then correctly
applying service is not going to happen.
