As Bob said, use bffcreate, (that's what smitty is doing) to copy the
filesets to disk.
Alternatively, you may be able to NFS mount the CD, but it won't simply be
the CD's root directory: it will be somewhere further down. It always used
to be ./usr/sys/inst_images, IIRC.
I have had problems in the past with long filenames and mixed case when
trying to access AIX CDs on Windows: you might face a similar problem, but
OS X ought to be OK, I'd have thought. Usually I mount it on a convenient
AIX server and NFS mount it from there.

Subject: Installing C, etc without using CD
I'm doing a number of installs, and I'm trying to avoid using the CD drive
on the AIX server, because doing so requires extensive use of stairs to
get to the server.
I've tried nfs exporting the CD from my workstation, but that isn't
working right (I'm using OS X and NSF manager to do the export).
I've tried copying the CD files into a directory and using:
smitty install_latest
with the directory and that isn't working. Is there a way to copy the
files to a directory and have it work?
This is extremely frustrating because it seems like it should be so
simple.
Thanks!
