Re: Strange login error -- Password read timed out.

We used to have that problem when we logged in via tty terminals. There were some distortiions on the line such as heavy equipment with high voltage causing interference.

One thing to check is the lines and make sure they are not near high voltage equipment. Also, if you are dialing in via a modem, you may have to check the modem string for the same issue of interference.
