bzip2 is a nice utility which has lot of functionality.
I've seen it on both Linux and AIX.

Does anyone have any recommendations re compression utilities. It needs to
work across various unix and linux platforms.

Obviously I am aware of compress and gzip. But does anyone have any other
recomendations, including 3rd party commercial and open source programs?
