Increasing the soft stack limit for users.

AIX gurus,
We have a lot of users (1000+) into a NIS database (in a master server) and several AIX machines which are clients of that database. In one of those clients we run an application which requires an increase of the soft stack limit. What is the best way to change this setting?
a) In the client AIX machine by manually changing the /etc/security/limits file, or by using a script? This solution appears to be error-prone, so I would like to avoid it. It breaks the NIS structure. Another problem I see in this method is to lose the local settings as NIS overwrites them;
b) In the NIS server by a script using chuser "stack=-1" user, rebuilding and propagating NIS maps?
Best regards,
Marlon Borba, CISSP.
